Arguably Oscar Wilde’s most popular, and most frequently performed play, The Importance of Being Earnest needs very little introduction. It is a light-hearted comedy that unashamedly pokes fun at the leisured English society of the late 1800s and revolves around the pre-conceived ideas of the day.
Since the play is set very firmly in English society of a specific period, the ability to speak in a good British accent will be essential.
GEDS encourages everyone to audition for its shows at all levels of experience. Our directors are looking for people who bring their own unique life experiences to the role. Mother tongue and nationality need not prevent you being cast; even age or gender can sometimes be flexible according to the needs of the play. GEDS serves a diverse international community and we aspire to reflect that richness in our activities and events.
